Job Description

The purpose of this position is to spread the message of the restored Church of Jesus Christ around the world. This is accomplished in part through the creation of engaging, unified messaging with greater reach and efficiency. Church messages are delivered via television, film, web, print, mobile, social media, and other delivery channels in multiple languages. We always seek new, improved, and more innovative ways to bring the world unto Christ.

This position renders doctrine and policy in Church materials approved for translation and interprets and records the words of the living prophets.

Responsibilities

  • 75% Translates, reviews, and proofreads all materials assigned by completing the necessary research and typing the translation. Annually translates 1000-1200 pages and may record 10-15 broadcast events.
  • 10% Controls quality of Church publications by proofreading and checking post-production materials (typesetting, art board paste-up, multimedia materials, web sites, and software). May supervise and review work of multiple contractors.
  • 5% Records materials for audiovisual production by reading his/her translation in a sound studio, synchronizing when necessary his/her words with the lip movements of the actor.
  • 5% Interprets broadcast events including general conference sessions, seminars, interviews, and phone calls.
  • 5% Serves as linguistic, cultural, and information advisor by consulting with Church writers and officers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree holder
  • 3-4 years experience
  • Translation certificate is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of English and mastery of native language (per formal testing).
  • Experience in making idiomatic and technical translations.
  • General knowledge of various subjects assigned for translation.
  • Knows LDS terms, doctrines, and organization.
  • Familiar with graphic and typesetting systems, methods, software, and terminology.
  • Good computer and typing skills.
  • Good people skills.
