This is a remote opportunity within the Netherlands.
As a remote-first company and team, we offer an optional co-working space in Delft. We foster collaboration with colleagues and partners across the UK, US, and Canada. Our reliance on asynchronous workflows allows for flexible working hours, though occasional evening availability is necessary to facilitate effective collaboration across a 9-hour timezone difference with the American west coast.
We are seeking a Junior Rust Developer to join our Security for AI team.
We are establishing the gold standard for securing AI and agentic workflows. Our current focus involves access management for AI agents, ensuring their safe and seamless interaction with various software and systems while protecting the credentials exchanged. This role involves working across a diverse tech stack in a rapidly evolving field, with projects ranging from client-side and system-level logic to back-end systems. You should bring a broad base of experience that enables you to quickly adapt to new technologies and domains, contributing to the creation and enhancement of products and features for this emerging market.
What You Can Expect
- Solve complex technical problems by designing and writing code.
- Continue learning across a broad tech stack and fast-moving domain; we provide opportunities and mentoring for continuous professional development.
- Participate in planning by identifying complexities, estimating, planning work, sharing status, and raising flags.
- Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in development.
What We Are Looking For
- Comfort stepping into new problem spaces and unfamiliar domains, quickly building expertise through curiosity, adaptability, and continuous learning.
- 1+ years of software development experience in Rust (e.g., internship, bootcamp, open source contributions).
- A desire and ability to write clean, maintainable code.
- Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills.
- Working knowledge of testing methodologies and debugging techniques to ensure high-quality code.
Bonus Points If You Already Have
- Familiarity with Golang and/or TypeScript.
- Experience building service-oriented backend systems.
- Familiarity with identity and access management protocols (e.g., OAuth, OIDC).
These are truly bonus points; we encourage you to apply even if you do not have this experience but are eager to learn.
Our Culture
At 1Password, we prioritize collaboration, clear and transparent communication, receptiveness to feedback, and alignment with our core values: keep it simple, lead with honesty, and put people first. You'll be part of a team that challenges the status quo, and is excited to experiment and iterate in search of the best solution. That said, 1Password is not for everyone. Our work is demanding, we strive for excellence, and the pace is fast. We need people who are keen to take on challenging problems, who seek feedback to grow, and who are driven to make an impact. If you're looking for a place where you can settle into a comfortable routine, this might not be the right fit for you. We’re looking for individuals who are proven experts in their fields, as well as those who are highly adaptable, can thrive in ambiguity and through change, are curious, and above all deliver results.
How We Work With AI
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We critically assess current AI forms to create superior solutions for our customers and ourselves, continually bridging the gap between security, privacy, and our mission. We expect team members at all levels to actively learn AI best practices, identify opportunities to apply AI meaningfully, and drive innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI is not just encouraged—it's an essential part of our success at 1Password.
This approach extends to our hiring process—candidates are welcome to use AI tools responsibly and thoughtfully during the application process.
