Position Overview
The Project Accountant will lead all fiscal management and financial administration aspects of assigned projects. This role ensures adherence to Turner's financial policies and procedures, proactively identifying and communicating potential profitability or risk to management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee and implement procedures to meet client contractual requirements for billing and accounts receivable, including contract analysis for billing deadlines, payment terms, and approved rates.
- Regularly audit client billing and project ledger to ensure compliance with contract requirements, GAAP, and company policy.
- Manage accounts payable for vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper sales and use tax, lien waivers, and insurance compliance are met before payments are scheduled.
- Report subcontractor payment issues to the project team and manage financial closeout, ensuring final contract amounts and documentation requirements are met.
- Manage month-end close processes, ensuring all client bills and project costs are posted or accrued accurately.
- Update project assets and rentals for insurance documentation and assist with all internal and external audit requests.
- Communicate potential risks or profitability issues to the project team based on cash position reporting.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Understanding of accounting implications of various contract terms related to profitability and risk management.
- Proficiency in cost analysis procedures.
- High degree of organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency with financial systems and MS Office (Excel, Word).
- Self-starter with adaptability and flexibility to work with minimal direction in a complex environment.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, identify problems, and recommend resolutions.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and integrity.
