We are seeking an operational, guest-focused Security Shift Supervisor to manage evening shift operations for a iconic 400,000+ sq. ft. museum and educational campus on Chicago’s lakefront. Reporting directly to the Security Director, this role leads on-duty security officers, oversees evening visitor operations, closing procedures, and event safety, and maintains high security and customer service standards across a high-profile public institution.
Schedule as follows: Thursday-Monday 4pm-12am
Key Responsibilities
Shift Leadership & Staff Development

Lead, direct, and motivate evening-shift security officers to ensure adherence to company policies, post orders, and safety guidelines.

Conduct daily shift briefings (roll calls), assign patrol routes across exhibit halls and campus grounds, verify attendance, and adjust shift coverage as needed.

Deliver site-specific "on-the-job" and annual refresher training on emergency protocols, technology systems, and customer service standards.

Perform random site checks to ensure officers are actively patrolling, wearing proper uniforms, and fully equipped.

Foster a respectful work environment through performance management, coaching, and staff recognition.
Closing Operations, Access Control & Asset Protection

Oversee daily public closing routines, exhibit sweeps, and secure lockdown procedures across the main facility and parking structures.

Maintain access control and visitor management procedures established by museum management.

Effectively utilize access control software, visitor/vendor logs, and CCTV monitoring systems during peak evening hours and after-hours events.

Monitor departing staff, contractors, and event guests to guard against theft or damage to property and exhibits.
Patrols, Incident Response & Special Events

Manage security coverage for evening private functions, special exhibit viewings, and after-hours public programs.

Conduct general foot patrols across interior galleries, multi-story stairwells, and outdoor campus grounds in all weather conditions.

Serve as an initial point of response for property emergencies, medical calls, escalated security events, and safety hazards.

Accurately record and log data regarding incidents, property/exhibit damage, equipment issues, and visitor/package tracking for leadership.

Provide exceptional customer service by assisting museum guests, staff, and event partners with helpful, professional communication.
Qualifications

Age & Education: Must be at least 21 years of age with a High School diploma or GED.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of prior satisfactory employment as a security officer or in a directly related role. Cultural institution, venue, or high-traffic public space experience strongly preferred.

Licensing & Screenings: Valid Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) (and valid driver’s license if applicable); must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Skills: Excellent English written and verbal communication skills (bilingual is a plus); proficient in access control technology, visitor software, and CCTV operations.

Physical Demands: Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; perform indoor/outdoor foot patrols in varying weather conditions; climb flights of stairs; and lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.
