Job Summary
The Quality Manager I is responsible for the implementation, improvement, and execution of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and project-specific quality program requirements within the Transportation Division in Chicago, IL. This role ensures that design and construction works align with established policies, procedures, and contract requirements, acting as a quality champion for projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the quality champion for projects, overseeing quality of works, material management, documentation, and close-out for efficient, effective, and profitable project execution.
- Coach, mentor, and train project staff and quality personnel on quality management principles and project-specific requirements.
- Lead quality processes including work planning, pre-activity meetings, material management, Quality Incident Reports (QIRs), lesson sharing, and follow-up inspections.
- Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and QIRs, analyzing trends and providing improvement strategies.
- Conduct routine audits of project quality programs using evaluation tools and provide feedback on major QIRs, team relationships, client perceptions, and recurring non-conformances.
- Direct and coordinate inspection, testing, and documentation of works with operations, consultants, laboratories, and clients.
- Create and implement project-specific inspection and test plans, quality control plans, and support material specification review.
- Develop and manage risk management strategies to improve profitability through process management and risk mitigation.
- Maintain relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, and design partners for partnering and issue resolution.
- Support Site Safety to ensure compliance with safety procedures and goals.
- Monitor project quality costs, optimize project billing, manage risk reporting and testing accuracy, and monitor rework costs via the QIR system.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in AEC or equivalent related field experience (e.g., International Code Counsel, NICET) is preferred.
- Current USACE/NAVFAC/NRC Construction Quality Management certification is preferred but not required.
- Industry certifications for testing and inspection are required as needed.
- Limited travel for projects as necessary.
- Level 1 QCM qualification.
- Minimum of 7 years of AEC experience, with at least 3 years in a Quality role.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, prioritization, organization, and time management skills.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, specifications, and publications.
