Software Developer Developer Experience
The D. E. Shaw Group seeks talented software developers to join our Developer Experience team. This team is responsible for empowering software developers across the firm by building and maintaining the tools, platforms, and infrastructure that define how software gets written, reviewed, and shipped. The position offers a chance to work at the intersection of productivity engineering and platform development—directly shaping the day-to-day development experience across the firm.
What You'll Do Day-to-Day:
You’ll join a collaborative and highly technical team to drive forward a best-in-class developer environment where you will:
- Engage directly with users to understand needs, address issues, and promote adoption of new tools and processes.
- Evaluate, integrate, and champion AI-powered developer tools, helping teams adopt these capabilities effectively and responsibly.
- Build and maintain integrations and enhancements across IDEs to improve developer productivity, code navigation, and in-editor tooling.
- Own and evolve our build tooling infrastructure, improving build speed, reliability, and reproducibility at scale across diverse codebases.
- Contribute to Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) improvements by streamlining CI/CD pipelines, testing processes, and deployment workflows across teams.
- Collaborate closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the firm to identify friction points, gather requirements, and deliver impactful solutions.
Who We're Looking For:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher and at least three years of professional experience in software development, infrastructure, or developer tooling roles.
- Demonstrated coding proficiency and problem-solving skills, with experience in Linux environments.
- Experience working with or building integrations for IDEs, CI/CD systems, version control platforms, or developer productivity tools.
- Understanding of AI technologies and an interest in incorporating AI tooling in developer workflows.
- Solid collaboration and communication skills, with experience working directly with users or stakeholders to deliver solutions.
- A genuine interest in improving the developer experience, with a track record of thinking carefully about what makes engineers productive.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $200,000 to $275,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
