About the role
About the Role
As the Financial Controller at TechChain Talent, you will own the entire finance function. From day one, you will be responsible for designing scalable systems and controls, overseeing and executing all accounting activities, and serving as a strategic finance partner for modeling, fundraising, and leadership decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Accounting Engine: Run the full accounting cycle, including journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly, quarterly, and year-end close. Produce accurate financial statements, board financials, and regular financial reporting.
- Internal Control Environment: Design and implement an internal control framework from the ground up, ensuring segregation of duties, approval workflows, and documentation standards to maintain GAAP compliance and audit readiness.
- Tax, Treasury, and Equity Management: Own the tax and compliance calendar, manage cash flow forecasting and bank accounts, and handle the financial aspects of equity issuances, including 409A processes.
- Strategic Finance Partnership: Support leadership with modeling, budgeting, scenario analysis, and variance analysis. Lead all finance-related activities for fundraising efforts and assist with diligence and audits.
- Finance Technology Stack: Configure the accounting and finance technology stack, optimize finance processes, and integrate AI as a force multiplier across the function.
Who You Are
- An experienced Controller, Senior Accountant, or Finance Leader with a proven track record of running a function independently.
- Possess a strong background in public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier) combined with experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
- A CPA is strongly preferred, though equivalent rigor will be considered.
- Enthusiastic about building systems and processes from scratch (builder mentality).
- A proactive, self-accountable individual who can identify risks and drive best practices.
- Genuine AI power user, comfortable leveraging AI tools for enhanced output, accuracy, and speed.
- Interest in crypto, digital asset, or web3 accounting is a plus.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to New York; this role is not remote-eligible.
