About the Role
Siemens Smart Infrastructure is seeking an Industrial Engineering & Digital Operations Excellence Manager for our Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit, with a focus on the PACS Assembly Center / Protection & Automation Panels operations in Wendell, NC.
Reporting to the PACS Plant Manager, this leader will build and lead the Industrial Engineering / OpEx capability for a greenfield, assembly-line facility (no raw material processing/prefab) and establish a scalable operating system to support rapid growth. The role owns end-to-end Industrial Engineering fundamentals (line design/balance, labor standards, standard work, capacity models) and a digital factory roadmap that turns data into daily action—integrating Lean management with practical Industry 4.0 enablement to drive measurable gains in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Productivity.
Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to support production schedules.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Building and leading the site Industrial Engineering strategy for assembly operations: line layout/design, workstation optimization, labor standards/time studies, and Yamazumi / line balancing to increase throughput and stability.
- Developing a continuous improvement roadmap for each value stream with a focus on Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity; deploying Lean tools (5S/6S, waste elimination, VSM, root cause/corrective actions, Kanban, visual management).
- Establishing and sustaining a performance management system (daily/weekly operating rhythm, KPI governance, escalation/problem solving) that converts operational data into action and prevents “pilot-only” digital initiatives from stalling before scale.
- Owning the Industry 4.0 / digital factory enablement roadmap: identify and implement high-impact opportunities for paperless execution, improved quality loops, and connected shop-floor insights aligned to smart factory principles (connected, adaptive operations).
- Leading new product start-up / transfer readiness from an IE/OpEx perspective: process readiness, standardized work and training, capacity planning, and launch stabilization to achieve high process and quality standards.
- Driving productivity and cost optimization programs through prioritized CI projects and justified capital investments; develop technology roadmaps for automation/digitalization programs and ensure benefits are realized in SQDCP metrics.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years experience in Manufacturing Engineering / Industrial Engineering / Operations Excellence, including leadership responsibility in a production environment.
- Demonstrated experience implementing Lean methods and tools such as 5S/6S, waste (Muda) elimination, root cause/corrective actions, Yamazumi, Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping / Process Flow.
- Proven ability to lead change, create accountability, and influence cross-functional partners to deliver measurable operational outcomes.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and communication skills with the ability to align teams to a common vision and operating rhythm.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lean / Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, Black Belt) preferred.
- Experience with Industry 4.0 / smart factory concepts (connected systems, real-time visibility, digital performance routines) and deploying solutions beyond pilot stage into daily management.
- Experience with manufacturing systems and data (e.g., ERP such as SAP); ability to structure shop-floor execution data for performance routines and decision-making.
