Job Overview
We’re actively seeking a talented Sr. Cloud Platform Engineer to join our dynamic cloud platform team in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a Sr. Cloud Platform Engineer, you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by serving as a trusted advisor and technical leader, guiding cloud and network teams through the complexities of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Your expertise will be critical in architecting, implementing, and optimizing global cloud infrastructure and networking solutions to achieve peak performance, robust security, and cost-effective outcomes. You will be part of a highly skilled team, integral to the design and implementation of core cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, cloud governance platforms, and automation tooling. You will also provide expert consultation and guidance, helping build a world-class suite of cloud-enabled capabilities and driving innovation in cloud networking.
How You'll Help Move Us Forward
Consultation & Strategic Advisory
- Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for cloud engineering and cloud networking across multiple major Cloud Service Providers, as well as hybrid connectivity solutions.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of on-premises and cloud network infrastructures to identify vulnerabilities, inefficiencies, and opportunities for enhancement.
- Develop tailored cloud and networking strategies, detailed roadmaps, and technical designs that align with business goals, security mandates, and financial parameters.
- Provide expert consultation and guidance, contributing to the development of functional strategy and process improvements.
Design & Architect
- Design and implement resilient, scalable, and secure cloud and network architectures spanning multi-cloud and hybrid environments (e.g., AWS Cloud WAN, AWS Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, VPNs).
- Architect and deploy advanced security solutions, including cloud firewalls (Imperva WAF, NWFW), network segmentation (VPC/VNet peering, micro-segmentation), and DDoS mitigation techniques.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry’s best practices, regulatory standards (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI), and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, risk management, application, and support teams to review design and test plans, determine potential gaps, and develop alternative solutions.
Implementation & Automation
- Deliver software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts using tools such as AWS, Azure, Terraform, Ansible, and Azure DevOps Pipelines.
- Lead and deliver complex cloud network migration and modernization initiatives from planning through execution.
- Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform preferred) to automate deployment and management of cloud and network resources.
- Enhance system and network performance via traffic engineering, load balancing, and Application Delivery Controller (ADC) configurations.
- Monitor system and network performance, recommend and automate corrective actions, and ensure end-to-end availability and performance of mission-critical services.
Mentorship & Documentation
- Produce comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, design specifications, operational runbooks, and client-facing presentations.
- Communicate complex details in a way that is understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences, collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and technical excellence within the team.
The Experience You Bring
- 8+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or network engineering roles, with at least 5 years specializing in public cloud networking and hybrid connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with networking services in at least two of the four major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP); multi-cloud proficiency highly preferred.
- MS in Computer Science and/or Engineering, or equivalent experience and certifications.
- Experience working as part of a Scrum or Agile team.
- Strong background in the following areas: compute & storage, network, security, software development, data analytics.
- Mastery of core networking (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VPNs, firewalls, IDS/IPS) and cloud networking (AWS: VPCs, Cloud WAN, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect; Azure: VNets, ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN; OCI: VCN Networks, Dynamic Routing Gateway).
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash), and configuration management platforms (e.g., Ansible, Tanium, etc.).
- Effective communicator with experience presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience writing Terraform modules.
- MS in Computer Science and/or Engineering.
- Professional-level cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, Azure Network Engineer Associate).
- Cisco CCIE or CCNP certification.
- Experience with micro-segmentation technologies.
- Experience with Python, Bash, HLC, and PowerShell as well as the command-line interface that support all major CSPs.

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
Base Pay Range: $167,850.00 - $205,150.00
