About the role
Front Office Application Developer (Mid/Senior Level)
We are seeking a highly motivated Front Office Application Developer to join our investment technology team supporting a long/short equity relative value investment platform. This individual will work closely with senior investment professionals, including the CIO, sector specialists, risk, operations, and technology teams to design, develop, and support critical front-office systems used in daily investment and portfolio management workflows. This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to the investment process and significant ownership opportunities across architecture, application development, integrations, analytics infrastructure, and business-critical tooling. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering skills with practical experience supporting front-office investment workflows in a fast-paced buy-side or sell-side environment.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to work closely with development, investment, trading, risk, middle office, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Design, develop, maintain, and support the firm’s front-office portfolio management and analytics systems
- Build scalable applications and services supporting portfolio construction, idea generation, exposure analysis, risk management, and investment workflows
- Work directly with senior investment professionals to gather requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business needs
- Architect and implement integrations between in-house systems and third-party platforms, market data providers, and research systems
- Develop and maintain APIs and distributed services supporting internal applications and analytics infrastructure
- Support near real-time portfolio analytics and investment monitoring workflows
- Participate in system architecture decisions and contribute to the long-term evolution of the firm’s technology platform
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across application, database, and data integration layers
- Optimize SQL queries, application performance, and data processing workflows
- Collaborate with risk and analytics teams supporting Python-based analytics infrastructure
- Contribute to operational stability during trading hours and respond to critical production incidents when required
- Lead or independently execute technology projects from requirements gathering through deployment and support
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to engineering best practices where appropriate
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years of professional software development experience in financial services or investment technology environments
- Strong understanding of equities markets and front-office investment workflows
- Experience working with portfolio management systems (PMS), OMS/EOMS platforms, risk systems, or similar front-office platforms
- Experience interacting directly with front-office users including portfolio managers, analysts, traders, or risk teams
- Strong understanding of trade lifecycle, portfolio analytics, exposure management, and investment operations concepts
Technical Skills
Required
- Strong C# /.NET development experience
- Strong SQL development skills with experience in SQL Server
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Experience building distributed or event-driven applications
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting production systems in business-critical environments
- Strong understanding of application architecture and software design principles
Preferred
- Angular or modern web application development experience
- Experience with Redis or similar messaging/caching technologies
