About this role

As an Imaging Software Engineer II at Axon, you will focus on automating and scaling image-quality tuning and testing for camera products. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include driving the automation of workflows, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and improving how image-quality evidence is captured and analyzed. You will also work hands-on with camera systems and develop tools to enhance the tuning process.

What you need

  • Hands-on experience with image quality in real camera products, ideally including ISP tuning, 3A tuning, image quality validation, camera module characterization, or product tuning
  • Experience with image-quality lab workflows, test charts, lighting setups, scene selection, regression testing, and the practical limitations of image-quality measurements
  • Practical software and tooling skills, especially Python for analysis, automation, scripting, data processing, or lab tooling
  • Working understanding of the camera pipeline from sensor through ISP, 3A, image processing, compression, and final output
  • A hands-on debugging mindset: comfortable moving between lab images, logs, tuning files, device behavior, and software tools
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both imaging domain experts and software engineers

Nice to have

  • Experience with Qualcomm or similar mobile / embedded camera platforms, ISP tuning tools, Chromatix-like tuning assets, or vendor ISP workflows
  • Experience with Imatest, color science tools, lab automation, camera characterization, or image-quality databases
  • Exposure to AI-assisted optimization, Bayesian optimization, ML-based image analysis, LLM-assisted tooling, or automated parameter search
  • C/C++ experience in image processing or embedded camera software
  • Experience with image-processing algorithms such as denoising, sharpening, HDR, demosaicing, tone mapping, multi-frame fusion, or stabilization

Worth weighing

  • The role requires in-person collaboration four days a week, which may not suit all candidates seeking remote work flexibility.
  • No specific salary or benefits information is provided in the posting, which may be a consideration for potential applicants.
  • The job description emphasizes a hands-on approach, which may not appeal to those looking for more strategic or high-level roles.
