About The Role

The Senior Data Engineer role at Marriott involves designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines to support intelligent assistants and AI-driven solutions. This role includes automating embedding generation for text, images, and voice data, ensuring data governance and compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize data retrieval, storage, and processing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate streaming and batch ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Automate embedding generation and refresh processes.
• Define data contracts and schema-evolution strategies.
• Implement tiered storage and retention policies for guest data.
• Instrument pipelines with OpenTelemetry metrics for performance monitoring.
• Collaborate with enterprise architects to establish data governance standards.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of data engineering experience.
• 2+ years working with embeddings or vector databases.
• Expertise with Spark, Flink, Kafka, or Kinesis and modern ELT tools.
• Strong knowledge of CDC, schema evolution, and GDPR/CCPA compliance.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CDK.
• Ability to optimize storage costs and GPU inference workloads.
