Build the Platform Powering the World’s Largest Retail Network
Walmart Global Tech is hiring a Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of our next-generation infrastructure applications platform—a critical foundation of Walmart’s Zero-Touch Networking initiative. In this high-impact role, you’ll architect scalable systems that automate and streamline how internal teams operate and gain insight into Walmart’s vast global infrastructure.
You’ll collaborate across engineering, operations, and product teams to deliver intuitive, intelligent, and resilient infrastructure tools—ultimately helping Walmart scale faster, operate smarter, and deliver better experiences to millions of customers around the world. About The Team
The Critical Infrastructure Automation & Observability team is rethinking how Walmart builds and manages infrastructure at scale. Our mission is to build a fully automated, intelligent, and self-healing platform that enables infrastructure teams to manage complexity with speed, safety, and efficiency. You’ll join a team of experts dedicated to eliminating toil, embracing modern engineering practices, and driving meaningful transformation at enterprise scale. What You’ll Do
- Lead architecture and development of Walmart’s infrastructure-facing applications that power automated network management, device lifecycle operations, and observability.
- Design modern APIs and front-end experiences to support self-service operations across networking, SRE, and platform teams.
- Build high-scale backend services, orchestration engines, and visualization tools to deliver automation, insights, and control in a unified platform.
- Champion platform reliability and operational excellence—ensuring observability, alerting, incident response, and 24/7 service availability.
- Mentor engineers, drive technical standards, and collaborate closely with leaders across infrastructure, product, security, and operations.
- Translate business and infrastructure needs into elegant, extensible technical solutions that drive measurable outcomes.
What You’ll Bring
- Extensive hands-on engineering experience in designing and building large-scale platforms (typically 10+ years).
- Proven expertise in full-stack development, ideally with: Frontend: React or similar frameworks; Backend: Java, Scala, or Golang; Databases: Postgres, Elasticsearch; Streaming: Kafka or NATS
- Strong understanding of infrastructure automation, intent-based networking, and platform abstraction.
- Experience designing APIs, orchestration engines, and developer-facing tools.
- Operational mindset with experience delivering high-availability systems, incident response processes, and well-instrumented services.
- Experience with networking domains or systems of record (e.g., NetBox) is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or Google Cloud.

Salary Information
The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Stock.
Minimum Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
