Freelance API & Backend Developer – Travel / Flight Booking Website
We are seeking a skilled Freelance API Integration & Backend Developer for a short-term project on an existing travel and flight-booking website. This is a fully remote freelance opportunity. Candidates from any location are welcome, provided they can communicate effectively in English and maintain reasonable overlap with Israel time.
About the Project
The project involves enhancing an existing travel website by reviewing and improving API connectivity, resolving code-related issues, and developing new API connections for flight search, booking, and supplier functionalities. You will be responsible for troubleshooting existing API connections, building new integrations, debugging flight data flows, optimizing data fetching and display, and ensuring reliable interaction with external systems.
Responsibilities
- Review, troubleshoot, and enhance existing API connections.
- Develop new API integrations with external systems, suppliers, or booking services.
- Fix code-related issues within the website’s flight search and booking functionality.
- Work with REST APIs, JSON data structures, and API responses.
- Debug issues concerning flight data, availability, search results, or booking processes.
- Improve data flow between external systems and the website.
- Manage API errors, validation, logging, and technical documentation.
- Ensure secure handling of API keys and sensitive customer data.
- Work independently and communicate effectively with the project team.
Requirements
- Proven experience with REST APIs and JSON.
- Strong backend development experience in PHP, WordPress, Node.js, Python, or similar.
- Ability to quickly understand, debug, and improve existing code.
- Experience building and troubleshooting third-party API integrations.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on an existing website without a full rebuild.
- Organized work process and clear technical communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with travel websites, flight booking, hotel booking, booking engines, GDS, or supplier APIs.
- Experience with WordPress or PHP-based websites.
- Experience with payment, reservation, or booking-related workflows.
