About the Role
Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, is seeking a remote Software Installation Engineer with an estimated 50% travel requirement. Preference will be given to candidates located in or near the midwestern or eastern United States.
What You Will Do
- Execute technical discipline installations at customer sites.
- Perform on-site and remote software installations and upgrades for Varian Software products, including troubleshooting and diagnosis.
- Work with physical and virtual environments, operating systems, databases, software, and networking technologies.
- Review the scope of work and customer IT infrastructure to ensure all requirements are met.
- Complete and maintain all necessary task documentation per Varian's Quality processes.
- Maintain customer system inventories using Site Equipment Configuration documentation.
- Stay current with Varian products and technologies through continuous training and certification.
- Collaborate with project management, local service, and hardware installation teams to provide excellent customer service.
- Perform upgrades, new installations, and potentially lead small to medium-scale software projects with limited supervision.
- Input detailed records of installation and upgrade work into company systems for accurate customer data.
- Maintain professionalism and safety according to VMS guidelines and customer regulations.
- Submit time sheets and expense reports regularly and in a timely fashion.
- Use problem-resolution escalation procedures and request technical assistance when necessary.
- Attend planning calls and provide technical input.
- Advise customers on accessing product information like Customer Technical Bulletins and Release Notes.
- Assist less experienced Installation Representatives with technical matters.
- Willing to travel up to 50% to locations in the USA and Canada.
What You Will Have
- Associate's Degree or equivalent experience with 1-3 years of directly related experience.
- Proficient computer usage and debugging skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft-based server operating systems.
- Customer-focused attitude with strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Comprehensive knowledge of networks and networking techniques.
- Functional knowledge of Citrix and VMWare technologies.
- Familiarity with business tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and time reporting systems.
