The Role
Under general direction, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to agency clients as assigned. This includes completing assigned duties and documenting in the medical record according to agency policies, procedures, and current standards of Nursing Practice, in support of Samaritan Daytop Village's mission and goals.
Responsibilities
- Assesses the health status of clients and develops a plan of care.
- Performs and documents nursing intake and medical history.
- Triages sick call lists and refers clients for appropriate medical treatment.
- Completes follow-up assessments to monitor treatment effectiveness for chronic and acute illnesses.
- Screens clients for TB by administering PPD and assessing reactions.
- Monitors lab values for abnormalities and reports to physicians or physician assistants.
- Reviews medical records to assess and ensure continuity of care.
- Reviews medical records of transferring clients to identify issues and follow-up needs.
Qualifications
- NYS RN licensure.
- BLS certification.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- 1-3 years of demonstrated experience as an RN, preferably with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and/or Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
- Availability for a flexible schedule.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR systems.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to put patients at ease and explain medical instructions clearly.
- Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills.
