About the role

Job Title: Specialist Pharmacist – Mental Health
Banding: Band 8A
Location: Staffordshire
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 3 months (with option to extend)
Hourly Rate: £34-36 per hour
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 (no on-call or out-of-hours)

 

Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking an experienced Band 8A Specialist Mental Health Pharmacist to join a pharmacy team in Staffordshire. This role offers an excellent opportunity to deliver advanced clinical pharmacy services within a mental health setting, supporting safe and effective medicines management. The successful candidate will undertake ward-based clinical duties and support dispensary services, including working alongside ACT pharmacy technicians to ensure high standards of care and operational efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services across mental health wards.
  • Conduct ward visits and provide expert medicines advice to clinical teams.
  • Support dispensary operations and supervise ACT pharmacy technicians.
  • Contribute to medicines optimisation and patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support clinical governance activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Extensive experience in mental health pharmacy (essential).
  • Previous NHS hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Ability to work at Band 8A level or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills.
