Banding: Band 6

Location: John Radcliffe Hospital

 Start Date: ASAP

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm

Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience

Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join the inpatient team at John Radcliffe Hospital. This locum role offers the opportunity to work with acutely unwell patients across a range of general medicine wards, including care of the elderly, cardiac, respiratory, emergency medicine, trauma, and a cardiothoracic critical care unit.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment and treatment for dysphagia and communication disorders and may be required to support other inpatient caseloads such as Acute Neurosciences, Critical Care, and Acute Stroke as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of acutely unwell patients across general medicine wards
  • Assess and treat dysphagia and communication disorders
  • Work flexibly across inpatient services with support from the wider team
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional standards
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to support holistic patient care

Desirable Skills

  • Tracheostomy competencies
  • Videofluoroscopy competencies
  • Experience in acute hospital settings

Requirements

  • HCPC registration (required)
  • Proven experience in inpatient adult care
  • Strong clinical reasoning and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly across caseloads
