About the role

Job Title: Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist
Banding: Band 6/7
Location: Southend
Start Date: ASAP
Hourly Rate: £24.00–£31.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full time or Part time

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and confident Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join an inpatient service at Southend Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a dysphagia-competent clinician to support adults with acquired swallowing and communication disorders within an acute hospital setting.

The successful candidate will manage a varied inpatient caseload, providing specialist assessment and intervention for adults with complex swallowing and communication needs. This role requires an independent and competent clinician who is confident working within acute pathways and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of adult acquired swallowing (dysphagia) and communication disorders.
• Manage an acute inpatient caseload at Southend Hospital.
• Carry out independent dysphagia assessments and implement safe, evidence-based management plans.
• Deliver timely intervention to support patient recovery and safe discharge planning.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.
• Contribute to risk management and decision-making regarding feeding and swallowing safety.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation.
• Support patient-centred care planning within acute pathways.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
• Proven experience working within adult acute Speech and Language Therapy services.
• Independent and competent dysphagia skills.
• Experience managing adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
• Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in an acute setting.
