About The Role
As a Senior Analyst, International Trade Compliance (ITC) for Planet, you will be an integral member of the ITC Team within Planet’s global Legal organization. This role offers the opportunity to tackle issues with significant compliance and financial implications for the company. You will regularly collaborate with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, sales, and other local and international personnel, as well as external counsel and vendors. Your primary focus will be on ensuring compliance with export/import laws/regulations, while also supporting economic sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance. The ideal candidate will have robust experience in the satellite or aerospace/defense industry, with a background in contracting, international trade, and/or legal. You will integrate export/import regulations into business operations, manage DDTC and BIS licenses/authorizations, and ensure legal compliance to optimize business outcomes for Planet.
This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. If you are located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.
Impact You'll Own
- Preparing and reviewing export/import authorization requests for international sales and company operations.
- Managing the full lifecycle of export/import authorizations, including training, regulatory filings, activity review, and recordkeeping.
- Conducting export/import training and providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Serving as an interface with U.S. government agencies for trade compliance initiatives.
- Interpreting US government regulations, specifically ITAR and EAR.
- Assisting in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and internal technology control plans.
- Reviewing and approving international travel, foreign visit requests, and export/import transactions.
- Supporting the review of international trade compliance terms in proposals/contracts.
- Working with technical experts to document export classification assessments and track new technologies.
- Preparing/filing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Commodity Classification Requests, and Advisory Opinions.
- Delivering formal presentations in meetings and training environments.
- Negotiating export/import control matters with stakeholders to achieve win-win resolutions.
- Supporting sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance, including due diligence and audit support.
What You Bring
- 4+ years experience in international trade compliance, legal, or contracting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Self-motivated, critical, and strategic thinker with strong negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience reading and applying the ITAR and EAR.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid commitment to integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
- Proven ability to influence and align stakeholders across departments without direct reporting authority.
- Capacity to build and maintain excellent working relationships.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Familiarity with navigating DECCS and SNAP-R.
- Certified paralegal and/or legal environment experience.
- Experience in a dynamic, startup environment.
- Experience applying ITAR and EAR in satellites and earth observation industry.
- Professional export compliance certifications.
- Experience applying ITAR and EAR controls in a global organization.
- Experience working with engineers or in a technical environment.

EAR/ITAR Requirements
This position requires access to export-controlled information; employment is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional licensing by BIS and/or DDTC.

Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
- New York City + California Salary Range: $95,500—$119,400 USD
- San Francisco Salary Range: $101,400—$126,800 USD
- US National Salary Range: $89,200—$111,500 USD
