About the role
Overview
Inovalon is looking for an Executive Communications Lead (Principal Creative Services Manager) who can translate complex business narratives into presentations that survive Board scrutiny. You will own the strategy, design, and execution of CEO-facing and Board material like investor decks, strategic initiatives, M&A narratives, and quarterly business reviews. This role is not about PowerPoint mechanics. It is about understanding how executives think, what moves their conviction, and what will withstand cross-examination in the boardroom. This role reports to the Head of Business Performance (ELT member) and is a standalone individual contributor.
Key Responsibilities
Own the strategy and execution of Board materials, investor presentations, and executive strategic communications. This includes intake conversations with C-level stakeholders, narrative development, design iteration, and stakeholder management through final delivery.
Develop airtight business cases and strategic narratives. Interrogate assumptions, pressure-test logic, identify weak spots, and restructure arguments before executives walk into the room. You will serve as the internal challenge partner, not just a designer.
Design for stakeholder scrutiny. Anticipate questions, build defensive depth into decks, and ensure every slide can stand alone under cross-examination. Know how investors, Board members, and PE sponsors think.
Lead the visual and narrative architecture of presentations. You will define the story spine, establish visual logic, and ensure consistency across executive materials—from 3-slide executive summaries to full 40-slide investor roadshow decks.
Manage stakeholder feedback cycles. Synthesize input from multiple executives, prioritize conflicting perspectives, and drive toward decision without losing narrative coherence. You are the keeper of the story.
Establish presentation standards and playbooks for business. Over time, you will document best practices, create templates, and mentor other leaders on how to think like an executive communicator.
Experience & Background
7–10 years of professional experience in high-stakes, scrutiny-driven environments where presentations move decisions
Previous experience in one or more of the following environments: management consulting visual/strategy teams (McKinsey VGS, BCG Design Studios, Bain specialist practices); investment banking pitchbook or M&A execution (bulge bracket or elite boutique); Big Four deal advisory presentation teams; or an internal CEO/executive communications function at a large enterprise. Candidates from VC/PE investor relations backgrounds with demonstrated board-level narrative experience will also be considered.
Production level proficiency with:
Presentation design software: PowerPoint (advanced), Keynote, or equivalent presentation platforms
Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop): nice to have; not a requirement for candidates from consulting or banking backgrounds
Design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch): advantageous but not required; the emphasis is on narrative architecture and executive-grade output, not design-system tooling
Ability to create clear, decision-driving charts and infographics; advanced Excel charting is the baseline expectation.
Stakeholder psychology: understanding what moves a C-suite, what triggers investor confidence or skepticism, and how Board members evaluate risk. Ability to anticipate objections before they arrive.
Executive presence & credibility: ability to challenge assumptions respectfully and own the outcome of your work.
Visual thinking & design discipline: understanding that visual hierarchy and design choices are arguments, not decoration.
Bias toward clarity over polish: ability to prioritize comprehension and decision-driving over aesthetic excess.
Operating under pressure: ability to manage ambiguity, evolving briefs, and tight turnarounds without compromising quality.
This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship (e.g. H-1B, TN, or E-3). Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States as a condition of employment. (This is only applicable for US-based positions)
