About this role

As a Controls Engineer at Vulcan Elements, you will be responsible for the controls execution of finishing equipment within a large manufacturing facility. Your role will involve hands-on programming, debugging, and commissioning of various industrial control hardware and robot cells, as well as conducting Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests. You will also troubleshoot complex automation issues and ensure compliance with safety requirements throughout the equipment lifecycle.

What you need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 4+ years of direct industrial automation and controls engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on experience programming and commissioning Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens PLCs and HMIs, including safety PLCs such as GuardLogix
  • Hands-on experience integrating multi-axis robots – FANUC, ABB, and/or KUKA
  • Experience with grinding, wire saw, EDM, or lapping equipment; mass finishing and deburring lines; conveyorized coating and cure ovens
  • Proficiency with Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, and similar industrial communication standards

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of ISO 10218 / ANSI-RIA R15.06
  • Experience with Cognex or Keyence class vision platforms
  • Experience with standalone CNC machines and/or OEM data retrofits
  • Knowledge of plant-level conveyor control and AMR/AGV fleet integration
  • Familiarity with combustible dust and reactive metals environments
