Position Summary
Oversee, maintain, and adjust production planning schedules to meet customer requirements while optimizing available factory capacity. Plan production of assigned products, maintain the production schedule, measure manufacturing output, release jobs to manufacturing, and balance the capacity of various manufacturing resources. Collaborates with colleagues to avoid bottlenecks in the manufacturing process and recommends recovery plans for missed milestones. Communicates and identifies achievable ship dates and/or delays in production to Sales and Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Develop production schedule to meet external customer delivery requirements and internal customer revenue targets.
- Review customer orders, factory capacity and material availability to provide product ship dates for Sales & Marketing.
- Advise management of work in progress status, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure product is delivered on time to the customer.
- Oversee the release of in-process component and assembly jobs and identify obstacles preventing timely releases.
- Collaborate cross functionally to identify opportunities, problems, and bottlenecks.
- Review sales inquiries/orders and forecast commitment dates based on lead-times and material availability.
- Collaborate with Operations Managers, Machine Shop Manager, Manufacturing Engineers, Shop Floor Group Leaders, Quality, and Planners to prioritize and expedite parts, and to determine progress and completion dates.
- Review Engineering Change Notices to ensure components and assemblies are updated to current work instructions.
- Participate and contribute to production status review meetings as required.
- Review and forecast changes to advise on adjustments, capacity issues, and shortages.
- Compile reports on progress of work and production problems.
- Provide information and assistance to Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing and Marketing/Sales on production planning processes and procedures.
- Review and update work instructions and policies related to the planning team.
- Back-up, supervise and provide core business system guidance to Planners.
- Train new Planners.
- Backup to Materials Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline that emphasizes analytics such as supply chain, logistics, engineering, mathematics, etc.
- Exposure to or experience with production planning using systems such as Epicor, SAP, MAPICS or the equivalent.
- Understanding business processes and using planning tools to optimize production.
- Strong analytic background and proficiency in Excel.
- Self-motivated and proactive with strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision as an individual contributor and as a member of cross-functional team.
