Principal Product Manager AI Merchandising Assistant
Lead the vision, strategy, and execution for Wally, Walmart's AI-powered merchandising assistant, helping redefine how merchants make decisions and get work done. We are seeking an AI-native product leader who is deeply fluent in modern AI systems and passionate about translating emerging capabilities into meaningful business impact at enterprise scale. You will partner closely with engineering, data science, and business leaders to build trusted, high-impact AI experiences for merchants. This is a unique opportunity to shape an AI-native product and apply the latest advances in AI to complex, real-world challenges at unprecedented scale.
About the team:
Our team develops an AI-native merchandising platform that empowers the merchandising organization by building shared services to govern and scale applications efficiently. Leveraging advanced technologies and data-driven insights, the team enhances product strategy and roadmap management. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, members drive innovation and operational excellence to deliver scalable solutions. The team applies strong project and stakeholder management skills to navigate complex challenges and ensure alignment with business goals. Continuous improvement and strategic thinking are central to maximizing impact across the merchandising domain.
What you'll do:
- Shape and drive product strategy across multiple related products, leveraging deep domain expertise and data-driven insights.
- Own complex customer problems and product requirements, considering upstream and downstream impacts.
- Develop and manage product roadmaps ensuring strategic alignment, technical feasibility, and resource prioritization.
- Establish scalable mechanisms for gathering and interpreting customer feedback and product usage data.
- Guide teams in defining success metrics aligned to customer outcomes and validate across product and user dimensions.
- Influence enterprise prioritization through customer insights and opportunity-sizing models.
- Mentor product managers and elevate product management practices across the organization.
What you'll bring:
- Deep experience building AI-native products, with strong fluency in modern AI technologies and a clear understanding of what makes AI experiences useful, reliable, and trusted.
- Proven ability to define product vision and strategy, navigate ambiguity, and deliver impactful products from concept to scale.
- Strong technical aptitude and experience partnering closely with engineering teams to shape product direction, evaluate tradeoffs, and influence system design.
- Expertise using data, experimentation, user research, and evaluation frameworks to measure product quality and drive decision-making.
- Exceptional leadership and influence skills, with a track record of aligning cross-functional teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and mentoring product managers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related area and 9 years’ experience in product management.
- Option 2: 11 years’ experience in product management or related area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related area and 8 years’ experience as a product manager, ideally working on consumer-facing, large-scale, highly complex B2B/C products.
- Supervisory experience.
