Summary
The Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program Registered Nurse (RRTP) Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or Mental Health (MH) conditions.Qualifications
Basic Requirements: * English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. * Graduation from an approved school of professional nursing accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). * Alternatively, individuals in master's level bridge programs who have completed equivalent coursework to a bachelor's degree in nursing may be eligible for temporary registration while pursuing licensure. * Foreign graduates must possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Equivalency validation may be required for education higher than an associate degree. * Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates without current licensure but who meet educational requirements may be appointed on a temporary basis while actively pursuing licensure. * Grandfathering Provision: Current VHA employees in the 0610 series performing these duties are considered to meet qualification requirements. Grade Determinations: The grade assignment depends on meeting specific criteria related to Scope, Education, and Dimensions (Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research), detailed in the online assessment. * **Nurse I - Level I:** Fundamental, knowledge-based care; ADN or Diploma in Nursing. * **Nurse I - Level II:** Integration of biopsychosocial concepts; ADN or Diploma in Nursing + 1 year specialized experience OR BSN. * **Nurse I - Level III:** Proficiency in practice, self-directed; ADN or Diploma in Nursing + 2 years professional experience (1 year at Nurse I, Level 2) OR BSN + 1 year experience OR MSN. * **Nurse II:** Leadership in holistic care; BSN + 2 years experience OR MSN + 1 year experience OR Doctoral degree. * **Nurse III:** Leadership in complex client care management; MSN + 2 years experience OR Doctoral degree + 1 year experience. Preferred Experience: * Previous Mental Health Nursing experience. Physical Requirements: The RN must be able to perform all duties without restriction, including considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. Repositioning and transferring patients may require lifting over 50 pounds. Requires visual and auditory acuity, ability to work with arms above shoulder level or neck flexed/extended, and the ability to control or protect oneself from physically abusive patients. Potential exposure to infectious patients, contaminated materials, and combative patients. Requires maturity, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively in stressful situations, shifting priorities as needed. Duties Start your VA career here at Valor Point! Duties include: * Assume responsibility for care coordination, focusing on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction. * Follow established policies and guidelines. * Influence care outcomes through interdisciplinary team collaboration. * Actively participate in unit/program level quality improvement and customer service initiatives. * Provide and lead competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. * Assist in directing nursing education, orientation, competencies, and quality improvement consultation. * Facilitate shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups. * Use therapeutic communication, de-escalation techniques, recovery-oriented language, and oversee the patient safe medication management program. * Actively participate in MH interdisciplinary treatment teams, patient safety, and environment of care rounds. * Respond to psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies. * Report safety concerns and document nursing assessments, risk screens, care plans, and rounds per facility policy. * Maintain professional boundaries and act in the best interest of the patient. * Foster a safe and supportive environment for healthcare professionals. * Support colleagues through knowledge sharing.
