Job Overview and Responsibilities
Senior Managers of Heavy Maintenance are responsible for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification activities conducted within the Out-Side Vendor (OSV) network. This role demands a vigilant leader proficient in various aspects, including aircraft maintenance, relationship management, virtual team leadership, and executive presence. Senior Managers will collaborate with numerous stakeholders, leveraging their team to deliver a safe, compliant, and predictable product to operations, ensuring that all deliverables meet the contractual obligations aligned with the airline's long-term strategic goals. Agility, resilience, and professionalism are crucial attributes for this role, alongside exacting standards for performance, partnership, and integrity. Key deliverables include achieving sustainable results in accordance with United Airlines' Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP), while executing against schedule and budgetary forecasts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team responsible for safety, quality, and compliance, adhering to approved guidance.
- Hold overall accountability for execution within accepted commitments to the airline at assigned stations.
- Actively identify and address issues hindering visit readiness to ensure successful execution.
- Provide approval for span and pricing agreements at induction and exit of maintenance visits.
- Ensure the integrity and timeliness of reporting, including data validation and proper downstream application.
- Hold stations and vendors accountable to contractual guidance, resolving disputes and seeking clarity.
- Serve as the central interface point for United Airlines (UAL) OSV leadership stakeholder groups.
- Lead UAL OSV SMS toolsets, championing continuous improvement and standardization across all OSVs.
- Analyze and assess financial results, ensuring compliance with forecasts and implementing necessary improvements.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Director of Heavy Maintenance to enhance, standardize, and share best practices.
Travel and Schedule:
- Facility Visits: 85%
- International travel required: Yes
- Operational schedule/onsite at facilities required: 50%
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent aviation experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of overall aviation industry experience, including military aviation.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and project management experience in aviation-related fields.
- Expertise in aircraft heavy maintenance, project/program management.
- Proficiency in aircraft maintenance management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external business partners.
- Proven organization and leadership skills, with the ability to build, lead, and maintain strong, productive teams and working relationships.
- Ability to partner effectively in a variable and complex environment, achieving predictable results through strong partnership and relationship building.
- Willingness and ability to travel more than 50% both domestically and internationally.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
- Successful completion of an interview is required.
- Reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in an aviation-related field.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
- Experience with budget management / P&L responsibility.
- MRO experience as a partner or leader.
- Proven track record of success and change management.
- Background in finance, airline operations, engineering, inspection, or planning roles.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $140,600.00 to $183,108.00 annually. This range is dependent on job-related factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
