Overview Of Department
The GIS (Geographic Information System) team is part of the MTA IT department managing the central mapping and spatial analytics unit. We utilize software, data, and hardware to manage infrastructure, plan projects, and improve safety. Our responsibilities include maintaining critical data layers, performing network analysis, visualizing complex datasets for decision-making, supporting operations, transit planning, and emergency response, and maintaining the GIS infrastructure for the MTA.
Fellow Responsibilities
The fellow will be responsible for spatial analysis, cartography, and data management within ArcGIS Pro. The candidate will create, edit, and maintain geospatial data and publish web layers to ArcGIS Online or Enterprise. This position begins in Fall 2026 and requires a minimum 12-month commitment.

Projects
The MTA has several projects in various stages of development. The fellow will assist in moving these projects forward and delivering value for the agencies we support. Three current projects include:
- GIS Content Promotion
- Weather Emergency Management
- GIS GeoAnalytics
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Keen eye for detail; ability to work independently while being an active team player.
Required Education
- Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or related field.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.
- Student transcripts must be submitted.
