As an Assistant Controller for Marmon’s Transportation Group, you will perform financial reporting and analysis, accounting and internal control compliance, and special projects for a group with revenues approaching $2.5 billion. This role reports directly to the Transportation Group VP of Finance. We are seeking a high-potential candidate with geographic mobility who desires to become a company controller in 2-3 years. The position is based in Marmon’s Chicago headquarters, with a strong preference for an in-office presence.Monthly Activities
- Consolidate, review, and analyze business unit financials and related schedules to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Distribute final consolidated financial statements, forecasts, and other reports to the management team.
- Assist in the creation of monthly financial reports for Marmon Executive Management.
- Book required General Ledger entries for the Group level, such as profit in inventory elimination entries.
- Distribute and ensure adherence to reporting deadlines by business units, and collaborate with Marmon’s Corporate Accounting team to resolve outstanding questions and intercompany accounting mismatches.
Quarterly Activities
- Review quarterly analytics provided by business units and work with them to revise as needed.
- Prepare and validate financial statement certifications for the Group and review/analyze business unit submissions.
- Assist in preparing Group presentations for Quarterly Business Reviews with Marmon Executive Management.
- Review and analyze the Benchmarking report prepared by Marmon Corporate.
- Analyze customer, competitor, and industry news, and filings to develop and disseminate market intelligence to Group leadership.
Annual Activities
- Manage the annual budget consolidation process, including offline consolidation of “first look” reporting, consolidation of preliminary and final submissions, budget change management, report generation, and issue identification/resolution.
- Assist with the preparation of budget presentation materials for Senior Executive Leadership.
- Participate in annual budget meetings with Group and business unit leadership, gaining insights into financial plans, growth efforts, and strategic thinking.
- Participate in the annual financial budget presentation to the Company CFO.
Ongoing Responsibilities
- Liaise with Internal Audit and Platform/Business Unit Controllers to review audit findings and ensure timely remediation.
- Perform Group-led “spot-audits” of business units (GAAP, company policy, SOX) and review remediation effectiveness.
- Compile and disseminate best practices and common findings to business unit management.
- Assist in the review and approval of capital expenditure and restructuring requests; perform post-audits of significant projects.
- Assist in the evaluation and due diligence of potential acquisitions, including post-acquisition integration efforts.
- Become a power user and Group resource for OneStream (Marmon’s reporting and consolidation software).
- Become an expert on Marmon’s accounting and internal control policies.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects.
- Respond to and coordinate data collection, aggregation, and reporting for special analysis requests.
- Leverage new tools to improve Group’s back-office communications and review processes.
What You'll Need
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/financial analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset.
- Ability to operate independently and multi-task.
- Audit experience strongly preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Position requires 10 to 20% travel, with potential for international travel.
