POSITION SUMMARY
Jackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for an Electric and Environmental Regulatory Paralegal in our Austin office. The Electric and Environmental Regulatory Paralegal provides legal and administrative support to attorneys in all phases of electric and environmental regulatory permitting, compliance, and litigation matters. This role supports case management through preparation of regulatory applications, drafting legal documents, managing discovery, and coordinating hearing and post-hearing activities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory Applications & Filings
- Assist with the preparation and compilation of complex regulatory applications.
- Organize and label exhibits and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and submit electronic filings and supplemental filings.
- Track filings and maintain compliance with deadlines and regulatory requirements.
Discovery & Case Development
- Draft discovery requests including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and disclosures.
- Assist attorneys and clients in responding to discovery requests.
- Review documents for relevancy and privilege and prepare privilege logs.
- Coordinate document collection and production.
Deposition & Pre-Hearing Support
- Coordinate depositions, including preparing notices or subpoenas and arranging court reporters.
- Communicate with witnesses and assist in preparation of deposition materials.
- Assist with preparation of testimony, motions, and pre-hearing briefs.
- Organize hearing notebooks and exhibits.
- Use of Harvey and firm-approved AI tools.
- Prepare exhibit and witness lists.
Hearing & Trial Support
- Assist attorneys during hearings by managing exhibits and taking notes.
- Coordinate witness logistics and attendance.
- Maintain and update exhibit lists throughout proceedings.
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients to prepare for daily hearing activities.
Post-Hearing & Case Management
- Maintain post-hearing calendars and deadlines.
- Assist with preparation and filing of post-hearing briefs.
- Ensure timely filing of all post-hearing documents.
General Legal Support
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, or other resources.
- Draft routine legal documents and correspondence.
- Maintain case files and document repositories (e.g., ShareFile) and firm-approved AI tools for data management.
- Support environmental due diligence reviews and regulatory research.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Paralegal certification required; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant paralegal experience in a law firm, preferably within environmental or regulatory practice.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and regulatory procedures.
- Experience with e-filing systems and regulatory agency requirements.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
