Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
- Alternatively, must have graduated from a formal training program within the last 12-18 months and possess a CMA certificate.
- Must meet state regulations for grandfathered status if applicable.
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
- Certification or additional training must meet meaningful use requirements.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
- Experience with orthopedics.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate communication between patient and provider.
- Collect and share pertinent patient information with the provider.
- Receive and act on directives from the provider.
- Prepare patients for visits: rooming, obtaining vitals, reviewing paperwork, pulling radiology images, removing dressings, procedure setup, injection prep, and accurate EMR data entry.
- Complete tasks for company initiatives (PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.).
- Maintain exam room standards: restock, clean rooms and tables, monitor biohazard and sharps containers.
- Assist the provider with prescriptions and medical/patient forms (work release, FMLA, etc.).
- Respond to voicemails within 24 business hours and document actions in EMR.
- Prepare patient electronic charts for clinic visits, verifying outstanding results, confirming patient appropriateness, and noting necessary imaging, DME, or casting.
- Scan clinical documents into EMR.
- Print clinic schedules on the morning of service.
- Ensure patients receive provider-indicated education.
- Manage assigned providers' EMR desktops in a timely manner.
- Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
- Create and promote a positive patient experience.
- Maintain a HIPAA compliant environment.
