About the role
Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Developer Platform
Adobe is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to contribute to the composition, construction, and operation of highly scalable, secure, and resilient cloud platforms. This role is a core builder position within the Developer Platform organization, redefining the SRE function to emphasize product and platform engineering. You will be responsible for designing and evolving cloud platforms as internal products with defined customers, roadmaps, and outcomes.
What you'll Do
Cloud Platform Engineering
Take ownership of platform capabilities from architecture and APIs to operability, lifecycle management, and developer experience. Translate reliability, scalability, and security requirements into reusable platform primitives and services. Drive platform adoption by making the optimal path the easiest for product teams.
Reliability
Define reliability, availability, and performance targets as key product requirements. Build standardized reliability patterns, including golden paths, reference architectures, and guardrails, that product teams will adopt by default. Engineer for failure through multi-region architectures, graceful degradation, and automated recovery mechanisms.
Automation & Platform Enablement
Develop self-service workflows, tooling, and APIs to abstract infrastructure complexity from application teams. Utilize Infrastructure as Code and policy-as-code to ensure consistency, safety, and scalability. Integrate CI/CD, provisioning, and operational workflows into a seamless developer experience.
Security & Compliance
Embed secure-by-design principles into infrastructure architecture and delivery. Implement secure networking, encryption, secret management, and access controls. Collaborate with security teams to maintain compliance with enterprise and regulatory standards. Proactively mitigate risk through architecture reviews and security hardening.
AI-Enabled Platforms
Contribute to platform capabilities that leverage AI for operational intelligence and automation. Develop scalable foundations to support the gradual integration of diagnostics, remediation, and insights powered by intelligent systems into the platform.
Cross-Team Leadership & Influence
Work closely with product engineering teams to understand their challenges and evolve platform capabilities accordingly. Serve as a technical leader and advisor on cloud-native build, reliability, and platform usage. Produce high-quality design documents and reference implementations to disseminate knowledge across the organization.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, SRE, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong experience designing and operating AWS-based platforms.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes, container platforms, and cloud-native architectures.
- Proven ability to build systems with reliability, security, and operability as core development constraints.
- Strong programming skills (Python, Go, Java, or similar).
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent).
- Experience building shared platforms or internal products consumed by multiple teams.
- Ability to think in terms of systems, tradeoffs, and long-term platform evolution rather than short-term fixes.

Behavioral questions
Frequently asked questions
- What specific AWS services are most critical for this Senior Site Reliability Engineer role at Adobe?
- While experience with a broad range of AWS services is beneficial, deep expertise in services related to compute (EC2, Lambda), container orchestration (EKS), networking (VPC, Route 53), storage (S3, EBS), and security (IAM, Security Groups) is particularly important for building and operating scalable cloud platforms at Adobe.
- How does Adobe leverage AI within its Developer Platform and how would a Senior SRE contribute?
- Adobe is integrating AI for operational intelligence and automation within its platforms. As a Senior SRE, you would contribute by developing the scalable foundations and infrastructure necessary to support AI-driven diagnostics, automated remediation, and insightful analytics, enabling faster issue resolution and enhanced platform performance.
- What does 'redefining the SRE role to focus on product and platform engineering' mean for this position at Adobe?
- This redefinition means you'll operate more like a product engineer, treating the cloud platform as an internal product. Your focus will be on its architecture, APIs, developer experience, and lifecycle management, with clear roadmaps and customer outcomes, rather than solely on reactive incident response.
- What is Adobe's stance on using AI tools during the interview process for this Senior Site Reliability Engineer role?
- Adobe encourages innovation with AI but restricts its use during live interviews unless explicitly permitted or approved as an accommodation. Inappropriate or misrepresented use of AI tools could impact your application. Focus on showcasing your genuine skills and thought process.
- Can you elaborate on the 'golden paths' and 'reference architectures' mentioned for reliability at Adobe?
- Golden paths and reference architectures are standardized, pre-defined solutions and best practices that simplify complex tasks for product teams. For a Senior SRE, this involves designing and implementing these patterns to ensure reliability, security, and adherence to operational standards, making it the easiest and most reliable way for teams to build and deploy.
- What programming languages are most commonly used for Infrastructure as Code and automation at Adobe for SREs?
- The job description highlights Python and Go as strong programming skills. For Infrastructure as Code, Terraform is explicitly mentioned. Expect to use these languages extensively for automation, scripting, and managing cloud infrastructure in a codified manner.
