About this role

As a Staff Simulation Architect for the Core Simulation Platform, you will be responsible for designing and owning the architecture of a high-performance distributed system that supports the simulation needs of the Apollo robot. Your role involves building cloud-native pipelines, defining core abstractions and APIs, and ensuring system scalability and reliability while collaborating with various teams to translate their needs into coherent architecture.

What you need

  • Excellent C++ and/or Python programming skills
  • Deep experience architecting distributed, high-throughput, or real-time software systems
  • Proven experience architecting workloads on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Ray, Kubernetes)
  • Deep familiarity with software development best practices: CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality standards
  • Track record of making and defending architectural trade-offs and communicating them clearly
  • Comfort ramping up quickly in a new technical domain and partnering closely with subject-matter experts

Nice to have

  • Understanding of robotics concepts: kinematics, dynamics, controls, system identification
  • Experience with modern robotic simulators (Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, or equivalent)
  • Understanding of Reinforcement Learning, with research or production experience

Worth weighing

  • No salary listed
  • The role requires a strong background in software architecture rather than robotics or simulation, which may limit candidates with a more traditional robotics background.
  • The position involves significant collaboration with domain specialists, which may require a steep learning curve for those unfamiliar with robotics.
